THE STORY BEHIND

RED

Brick

COFFEE

John and Angie McCourt just knew they had to purchase the Red Brick building as they have loved it since they bought their home in Floral City over 10 years ago. It evoked a nostalgic emotion and they couldn't stop dreaming about it! Every time they passed it they said 'wow that would be a great place for a coffee shop'.

They did just that and in 2026, with courage, excitement, and a minor caffeine addiction, the doors to Red Brick Coffee House officially opened. RBCH has become a happenin' spot for locals and visitors from around the world.

HISTORY OF THE RED BRICK BUILDING

In the heart of Floral City, Florida, where moss-draped oaks whisper stories of the past, a grand brick building opened its doors in 1905 as the town’s first bank. It was a symbol of prosperity, trust, and ambition — and at its core was a massive brick vault, built to protect the fortunes of citrus barons, railroad tycoons, phosphate miners and hardworking families. But as phosphate mining stopped after WWI and the town’s fortunes shifted, the bank closed its doors. The vault, however, remained. Locals whispered tales of what might still lie behind its thick door: gold coins, lost deeds, maybe even a forgotten treasure map.

In 2026, the building was reborn — not as a bank, but as a coffee house. When the new owners opened the vault, they didn’t find gold… they found potential. The perfect climate-controlled chamber for storing the world’s finest coffee beans. Beans as rich and storied as the vault itself.
Now, every cup brewed here is a sip of history. The vault still stands, not as a relic, but as the heart of the coffee house — a place where the past and present blend as smoothly as espresso and steamed milk.

In 1915, the building became the post office for almost 30 years. For the next 80+ years the building was known to small businesses, mercantile shops, a dress shop, a gift boutique and gallery. Each owner of the Red Brick building cared for it as a guardian ensuring it would last for generations.  We are grateful for the building surviving two downtown fires in the early 1900's. 121 years later it is still an iconic part of Floral City's historic downtown.

The Story of Our Coffee Roaster:
Carrying on History and Tradition in our Coffee Beans from Gavina Gourmet Coffee

Coffee Is a Family Tradition
The history of our coffee company is a story about family. Brothers José María and Ramón Gaviña began this quest well over a century ago in 1870 when they left their native Basque region of Spain in search of a better life. They settled in the fertile mountains of southern Cuba and planted the seeds of what would become Gaviña Gourmet Coffee.

Our father, Francisco, was born on the family coffee estate, Hacienda Buenos Aires. As a boy, he worked in the fields with his own father, watching and learning the secrets of growing quality coffee. He spent hours upon hours helping sow the seeds and urging the little plants to grow.

Ever since, there have been Gaviñas running our coffee business – from our coffee growing roots in 1870 to our coffee roasting business in Los Angeles founded in 1967. Today, we carry on the dream in our state-of-the-art coffee roasting facility just a few blocks from our original building.

We are Francisco’s sons, Paco, Pedro and José, and his daughter, Leonor Gaviña-Valls. Like our father, we grew up on the plantation and learned about coffee in the fields. Along with our own children, we still personally select beans, cup samples as they arrive and oversee the specialty coffee roasting and production every day. We do all of this so that your customers and guests can be ensured a wonderful cup of coffee every time, from first sip to final drop.
